10 Most Exciting Upcoming Movies Announced This Year

After the monstrous success of It, it's no surprise that Warner Bros are quickly moving forward on another Stephen King adaptation with Doctor Sleep, the sequel to King's The Shining about a grown-up Danny Torrance struggling with the demons of his past.

Nobody is expecting the movie to be as good as its predecessor, but right off the bat, Doctor Sleep seems to have everything going for it, and this genuinely could be that rare case where the sequel is able to match or outshine the original.

First off, the project has the perfect director in Mike Flanagan. You may not know that name, but he's directed some of the best horror-thriller flicks of the last few years, including Hush, super-sequel Ouija: Origin Of Evil and the disturbing Oculus. Oh, and he also helmed 2017's Gerald's Game, one of the greatest Stephen King adaptations ever put to film.

In addition, the always-reliable Ewan McGregor recently boarded the project as Danny, a spot-on casting choice that should be able to tap into the actor's ability to play a likeable, yet troubled individual.

After the labour of love that was It, you have to imagine Warner Bros are developing Doctor Sleep just as carefully. If they can produce similar results here, this will be one that you must not miss.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
