David’s Fincher’s terrifically suspenseful murder-mystery was another serving of his signature style; offering up a collective of deeply dark story threads, leaving viewers on the edge of their seat.

With Amy missing and presumed murdered, and her husband Nick the primary suspect, this Gillian Flynn adaptation kicked things up a gear by revealing that Amy was not dead, but instead in hiding with a manipulated admirer.

As Nick begins to coerce the frenzied media, Amy plan is uprooted as she decides to return home to continue her revenge on her adulterous partner. In an attempt to cover her tracks, Amy weaves a dark conspiracy of sexual assault and a captive hostage, implementing her eager lover, Desi.

Seducing Desi with the promises of a life together, Amy leads him to the bedroom as the two begin to have sex. Slowly raising her hand, Amy reaches for hidden box cutter before slashing Desi’s throat with a swift flick, holding him down as he bleeds out.

As the only true moment of violence in the film, this was Amy’s detrimental evolution from crazed manipulator to stone cold murderer. Excellently complimented by a pulsating and menacing score, Amy callously flicks her hair into place, covered from the neck down in Desi’s blood, as audiences watched mouths-agape; shocked by the gruesome and calculated murder.
