2. Rey Is Shmi Skywalker
Not much is known about Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's mother who appeared in the prequels, but she does carry the famous surname. Before the saga was drawn to a close in The Rise of Skywalker, fans attempted to draw links between Shmi and Daisy Ridley's Rey. This theory suggested that Rey too was a Skywalker, but not a descent of Luke or Anakin but rather an ancestor.
Drawing influence from the 'time-travelling' World Between Worlds that was introduced in the animated series Star Wars Rebels around the time, this theory speculated that Rey would travel back in time and eventually give birth to a young Anakin Skywalker (with Ben Solo likely being the father), giving the saga perfect cyclical closure.
Shmi and Rey do bear somewhat of a resemblance but other than that this theory was a huge stretch.
