10 Most Memorable Postmen on Film & TV

3. Chuck Noland - Cast Away

Tom Hanks is superb as Chuck Noland, the systems analyst working for FedEx who has his entire life upended when he is the sole survivor of a devastating plane crash while overseeing a consignment. So yes, Chuck is not a postman in the typical sense, but when he ends up marooned on a remote island for several years, it is the various FedEx packages - specifically a Wilson-brand football - that helps to maintain a scarce sense of his sanity. Furthermore, he becomes dead-set on ensuring that all of the packages he discovers around the island are returned to their rightful owners, so in effect, he ends up becoming the most dedicated postman who has probably ever lived, given that the film ends with him returning one of the unopened packages, going well out of his way to do so. Fun fact: FedEx didn't pay a penny for their brand to be featured in the film, and were reportedly terrified when they first heard of Robert Zemeckis' intentions, though did concede that the film helped raise brand awareness throughout the world.
