2. Postman Pat

Postman Pat is one of the world's most famous postmen and is distinguished on this list for being the only animated postman, and also the only one aimed primarily at children, even if the sight of him will evoke strong, warm feelings of nostalgia in legions of adults, too. The classic, easily digestible series focuses on the titular protagonist, a polite, well-to-do, conscientious postman, who drives around in his red van - formerly branded by the Royal Mail before they decided in 2000 that Pat no longer suited their brand imagery - with his black-and-white cat Jess, delivering mail and chatting to the locals. Though it doesn't sound like the most invigorating TV show ever, it's the escapades that Pat and Jess got involved in along the way that made it essential viewing for any British child. The show has become so popular that it's aired in over 20 countries, and has remained a staple of kid's TV ever since its inception, transcending various trends that might have suggested it wouldn't be relevant anymore. Plus, it's got an insanely catchy theme tune...
