10 Most Messed Up Horror Movie Openings

The first thing we see is a young woman run from her house and down her street, before stopping to survey the area. Neighbours call out to her, asking her if she is ok and if she needs help but she dismisses them.

She is dressed as if she’s just had to rush out, wearing red heels that are completely unsuitable for running. We have no idea what she is looking at or running from.

Next she drives to the beach, abandoning her car there. She calls her dad and tells him that she loves him, and apologises for anything she’s ever done to him. We can barely see the waves in the darkness behind her.

Completely out of the blue it cuts to morning, the waves lapping at the sand and the woman’s mutilated body lying on the beach. Her legs are so severely broken that the bone protrudes, she is bloodied and her eyes are wide and glassy. So what the hell just happened?

It’s incredibly jarring and mysterious, and her physical state really is a bit sickening. Overall though it’s a perfect introduction to the coming narrative.
