10 Most Over-Rated Movies Of 2016

9. The Conjuring 2

Back in 2013 James Wan released The Conjuring to rave reviews and huge box office success and this year, armed with double the budget of the first film, he repeated that success with its not-so-imaginatively titled sequel The Conjuring 2. The question is, how?

While the original was an effective chiller that felt like a refreshing return to the creepy, supernatural horror movies of the 1970s (probably due in part to being inundated by the torture porn genre for so long) and the sequel is better than most horror sequels, it’s still not entirely deserving of its 80% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

That’s not to say it’s an awful film – it’s perfectly okay and a hell of a lot better than some of the trashier, low budget contributions to horror there are out there. But to be truthful it’s overlong by a good half hour, its scares aren’t scary enough to keep interest piqued and its big twist ending is pretty stupid.
