5. John Cutter - Passenger 57
The Line: 'Always bet on black.' Pretty much everything about Passenger 57 is ridiculous, from the outfits Wesley Snipes wears to the villain who was clearly only named Charles Rain so that he could do the whole 'Charles Rane is not insane' shtick. The basic premise is that our villain is a notorious airplane hijacker so the police decide the best thing to do when transferring him is to put him on a plane. This decision is so ridiculous that the film's characters question it making you wonder if the writers actually thought about what they were doing between cocaine brunches. Luckily for everyone aboard this flying plot device, Wesley Snipes is there to save the day. Playing John Cutter, an airline security expert, he proceeds to display his security skills by unleashing furious kicks at anything within range. After escaping the gun toting terrorists by going down in the plane's lift he calls Mr. Rane up to deliver a hell of a line. The main issue with this quip is the time it takes to set up, he has to deliberately change the subject from dangerous hostage crisis to blackjack and for what? The astoundingly ridiculous line: 'Always bet on black'. It sounds like something out of a Fred Williamson film back in the height of Blaxploitation and is seemingly shoehorned in to remind everyone that Wesley Snipes is in fact an African American. Cutter does go on to brutally kick Charles 'reign of terror' Rane (seriously, they call him that) out of the plane and save the day but he does so without a one-liner. He simply watches the villain fall to his death and has a good laugh about it. I can't help but feel that as well as giving us one of the most ridiculous quotes of all time, not quipping about booting someone from an airborne plane is just negligent.
