5. Ward Abbott - Bourne Supremacy

Jason Bourneis just starting to work himself out of his perpetual, violent amnesia, with increasing flashbacks to his time as a CIA assassin helped crystalize why so many people he's seemingly never met want him very, very dead.

But just as Bourne is starting to put the pieces together and form a legitimate case for why dozens of current CIA operatives should stop trying to turn him into meat stew, Deputy Director Ward Abbott - the only one who really knows the grimy details of Bourne's involvement in a failed assassination of an African dictator - muddies the waters in an effort to keep the secrets of the failure from getting out, and thus saving his own ass in the process.

Not content to simply use words and lies to screw over his former employee, Abbott also murders another CIA operative who suspects a conspiracy against Jason Bourne and has evidence that may help prove it.

Eventually, Bourne is able to confront Abbott, where the Deputy Director admits to stealing $20 million from the agency, ordering the attack on the African dictator, framing Bourne, and ordering the hit that killed Bourne's girlfriend. Though Bourne spares his life, Abbott commits suicide shortly thereafter, which would be at least mildly sad, if his last words weren't "I'm not sorry."
