10 Most Tasteless And Outrageous Directors In Movie History

5. Jess Franco

Jess Franco is almost the epitome of tastelessness and outrageousness in cinema. A highly prolific film-maker, nobody is really sure about the extent of his filmography and how many sleaze epics he actually produced. But what is sure is that with titles such as Eugenie: The Story Of Her Journey Into Perversion - Franco was a devotee of sexually perverse cinema efforts. Mainly working with extreme low budgets, Franco couldn't do much in the realm of quality special effects so he crammed his movies full of kinky sex - including the iconic Vampyros Lesbos which made good use of Soledad Miranda's magnetic beauty. After Soledad's tragic death, Franco met his next great muse - Lina Romay, whose wild sexuality, utter lack of inhibitions and taste for exhibitionism proved to be very inspiring for Franco and his films became sexually more expliciit. The image of Romay as Irina Karlstein, the bare-breasted countess, trotting through the woods in nothing but a cape and a pair of thigh high boots is an ever lasting piece of exploitation cinema outrageousness. Franco pioneered the use of the zoom shot, which he used mainly to showcase Lina Romay's pubic region. With films such as Sexy Sisters, Love Letters From a Portuguese Nun, Sadomania! And Lorna the Exorcist, Franco made an ample sized contribution to tasteless and outrageous cinema.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
