Unashamedly, your writer will take any opportunity to shine a spotlight on writer/director Brandon Christensen’s Superhost.

A three-pronged picture - with a cracking cameo from genre fave Barbara Crampton - Superhost centres on travel vloggers Claire (Sara Canning) and Teddy (Osric Chau) as they find themselves staying at a stunning, remote property owned by the quirky Rebecca (Gracie Gillam).

With Claire in particular obsessed with getting those likes - even believing a genuine marriage proposal from Teddy was merely a stunt to get more viewers - the oft-erratic Rebecca is put in front of a camera to make the most of her unique, magnetic charisma.

Superhost is extremely honest with its audience from the get-go, making it clear that Rebecca has a sinister underbelly to her, and part of the fun is waiting for those moments when the mask starts to slip, with Gillam fantastically switching from charming, helpful host to crazed, murderous psychopath in the blink of an eye. Genuinely, Gracie Gillam’s performance here is one of horror’s standouts of the past decade, such is the magical way she effortlessly bounces from one emotion to the next.
