10 Most Underrated Movies Of 2016 (So Far)
2. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice
It cannot be denied that Batman V Superman is flawed, because it plainly is: the plot is unclear and messy, the relationship between its titular heroes makes little sense, and the action scenes leave a lot to be desired. And yet, despite all that, Batman v Superman is still a thoroughly entertaining film - and shouldn't blockbusters like this ultimately be judged on their ability to hold your interest?
One critic loathed Batman V Superman to such an extent that he declared it to be "the worst superhero movie ever." Each to their own, but c'mon! This isn't anywhere near the colossal misfire that many declared it to be - especially when you take fan response into account, who (generally speaking) were more positive. It might be dark and dour, but that's tonally appropriate for the world it portrays.
Perhaps it was the collective sense of disappointment - that such a great idea had been squandered - which resulted in all the one and two star reviews and massive backlash, but there is a lot to like, too: Ben Affleck is the best screen Batman ever, the movie cleverly sets out to address the notion of "collateral damage," and there are some wonderful images embedded throughout - especially those that paint Superman as a "God."
Quite simply, the hate is absurd: Zack Snyder delivered a wonky but ultimately admirable superhero showdown. Nothing more, nothing less.
