10 Most Underrated Star Wars Characters Ever

8. General Veers

A competent Imperial officer is pretty hard to find in the history of Star Wars, but General Veers is about as close as they come to being just that.

The Empire Strikes Back opens up in pretty much the same fashion as where A New Hope left off: overly-brash and incompetent Imperial officers making mistakes around various Star Destroyers, with Darth Vader coming along to make a few snide comments before force choking them off the screen. The likes of Admiral Ozzel are on hand to dish out the blunders in preparation for the Empire's invasion of Hoth in the beginning of the movie, but then General Veers is shown on the ground in one of the iconic AT-AT Walkers and is, surprisingly, doing a pretty good job.

One of the few generals to have never been force choked by Vader, with the General apparently carrying a lot of the Sith Lord's respect, Veers was the commander responsible for destroying the Rebel Alliance's crucial shield generators protecting them and their Echo Base. Though his AT-AT is eventually destroyed by a Snowspeeder, it was down to Veers' command that the invasion of Hoth turned into a success for the Empire.
