10 Movie Adaptations That Clearly Hated The Source Material

The Resident Evil franchise is one of the strangest in cinema history. It's the highest-grossing set of films based on a video game property, which is weird, because each one of them seems to detest the games they're actually based on.

Though they're all indebted to the series when it comes to general plot beats, settings and locations, director and writer Paul WS Anderson clearly does not have much affection for any of the things he cribs.

For one, the series discards all the great heroes from the games for a brand new protagonist, the super-powered Alice, who constantly shows up the characters from the source material. The supporting cast which do show up from the games get butchered, acting as mere facsimiles of their original counterparts, only there to throw a bone to the fans.

This nod towards the games is often worse than omitting parts of them though, as it makes it clear that Anderson has no interest in actually exploring the original material on screen, and instead is just content to use these elements to score easy wins with the fanbase.
