10 Movie Characters More Important Than You Think

2. Bridget - Hereditary

Hereditary
A24

In Ari Aster's Hereditary, you might vaguely remember the incredibly minor character of Bridget (Mallory Bechtel), a classmate and romantic interest of Peter (Alex Wolff) who is in his classroom when he slams his face into his desk.

Even though Bridget certainly seems horrified when Peter does this, there's been a persistent fan theory that Bridget actually knows far more about what's happening to Peter than she's letting on - that she may very well be a member of the cult that's wearing him down throughout the movie.

The most persuasive piece of evidence is that a brief glimpse of Bridget's Facebook profile earlier in the movie shows her surname to be "Molpe." In Greek mythology Molpe is a Siren - a woman who uses her beauty to lure unsuspecting men to their deaths.

Given that nothing is done by accident in an Ari Aster movie, it seems highly probable that, either intentionally or as an unwitting pawn, Bridget is being used to further manipulate Peter, wear him down, and prepare him to become the new host of the demon king Paimon.
