4. Man Goes On A Revenge Driven Killing-Spree After His Puppy Is Killed (John Wick)
Can you remember the first time somebody explained to you the premise of Keanu Reeves' newest action flick by the name of John Wick?
Legendary assassin retires to live out rest of his days with wife. Wife sadly dies and leaves husband with beagle to keep him company. Beagle is killed by mobsters. Revenge ensues.
You probably also remember saying something along the lines of 'OK? Is there anything else on?'
Yet, instead of fulfilling its destiny in becoming a brainless trigger-happy B-movie, what followed completely revitalised both the shoot-em-up genre and Reeves' own career.
With brutally creative car chases/fight scenes, a who's who of brilliant ensemble members and a narrative that seemingly gets better with age, the John Wick series has evolved from a personal quest for justice into a battle to stay alive long enough to be a responsible pet-owner.
Off the back of the third movie's unquestionable success, a fourth installment has already gone into pre-production and you can bet that the film's once laughable premise is now looking positively hilarious sat next to the $500+ million in box office returns that Lionsgate have accumulated from the franchise.
