10 Movie Dreams That Died In 2019

3. Fan Dreams Of Seeing A Ben Affleck Solo Batman Movie

It's fair to say that the news of Ben Affleck's Batman casting was met with more doubters than supporters, even though, at that point, the guy had already proved himself a terrific actor in movies like Argo and The Town. And sure enough, he went on to be a pretty solid Dark Knight.

His performance in Batman V Superman was one of the highlights of that film, and as you'd expect when talking about freakin' Batman, rumblings about the actor getting his own solo movie started to heat up around this time. It was soon revealed that Affleck would not only star, but would write and direct as well, and the project seemed to be gaining a decent amount of traction.

Even people who didn't like BvS overall were, at the very least, optimistic about Affleck getting to stretch his creative muscles in a bit more of an open space, largely separate from the hustle and bustle of the interconnected DCEU. The guy had already proved that he can write, direct and star in the same movie with fantastic results (The Town), so it was easy to be excited about The Batman, too.

So it's a crying shame that the whole thing fell apart. Much like the Dark Universe's demise, the collapse of Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie was on the cards for a good long while (he abandoned directorial duties in 2017), but it fully died in 2019, when it was officially confirmed that he would be stepping away from the Batman role.
