10 Movie Dreams That Died In 2019

2. Tyrese Gibson's Dream Of Seeing Hobbs And Shaw Fail

For a movie franchise that revolves around "family", it's pretty odd how much beef exists within the Fast and Furious clan. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson had a spat for a little while (which now seems to have ended), but one feud that still rages to this day is the one between Johnson and his co-star, Tyrese Gibson.

It all started a few years ago, back when the then-untitled Hobbs and Shaw was first rumoured to be happening. Gibson hopped on one of The Rock's Instagram posts and told him (in a comment that was swiftly deleted) that if he moved forward with the spinoff, then their friendship would be in jeopardy.

Things heated up even further when Fast 9 was delayed to accommodate the Johnson/Statham solo vehicle, with Gibson accusing Johnson of making the franchise all about him, while also taking a shot at the failure of his Baywatch movie. To put it plainly, Gibson was salty about the whole idea of Hobbs and Shaw, and as a later post would reveal, he was intent on seeing it fail.

Said post arrived shortly after the movie's opening weekend, which - while strong when viewed on its own - was the lowest debut for a Fast movie since 2006's Tokyo Drift. Gibson shared an article with that exact headline, laughing at Johnson and relishing in Hobbs and Shaw's "failure" when compared to the recent entries in the franchise.

But Gibson wasn't laughing for long, because the movie ended up grossing over $750 million worldwide, a roaring success by any standards. To celebrate, Johnson took to Twitter and subtly labelled Gibson a clown, while Gibson himself hasn't said a word.
