10 Movie Endings That Are Secretly Depressing

1. Toy Story 3

The Incredibles 2
Pixar

Plot:

Andy is heading to college. Through a mishap his old toys end up at a daycare whose toy leader is a secretly malicious teddy bear. After escaping and almost getting burned alive at a landfill, Andy's toys all end up being given to a new child and have a second chance at life.

But Wait...

Bonnie, the child they are given to, is going to grow up too. She's going to get new toys. She's not going to only want to play with hand-me-downs, and she's not going to be emotionally attached to all the same toys Andy was. To people, toys are just things. Of course they will be thrown away and abandoned and there is nothing in the long run toys can do to stop this. They can't tell people they're alive.

Toys have a small amount of control over their own lives: they fall in love, they have makeshift toy families, they move in secret when their child is gone - but when it comes to larger events of the world around them, they're powerless. The incineration at the landfill is an inevitability: if not now, eventually. Which seems pretty grim.

Or maybe it's just a very on the nose allegory for how real life is. Guess we'll have to wait for the 4th movie to find out.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
