10 Movie Franchises That Ended Too Soon

6. Dead Snow

Zombie Nazis getting their heads caved in? Set in a luscious, stunning snowy location? What's not to love about the gory gratuitousness of the Dead Snow series?

Obviously, not everyone is a fan of such slapstick violence and ridiculous plot, but still, there's plenty to keep horror hounds amused and entertained during the two Dead Snow films to date. Which is why it's a little puzzling that the franchise has not returned for a third outing.

The horror genre is famous for going on way, way, way too long with so many of its franchises - Halloween totalling 11 movies and counting, Friday the 13th amassing a total of 11 films and a crossover, Hellraiser clocking in at ten, the Saw series about to serve up its ninth offering next year - and so that renders the two outings for Dead Snow as extremely modest in comparison.

Reception-wise, 2014's Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead received an even better fan and critical response than its 2009 predecessor. Then there's the fact that the second movie also featured a post-credits scene indicating that the villainous Herzog was to rise again in a third film.

Franchise creator and director Tommy Wirkola did give some hope in 2017 that a third movie would be happening, but it's been very much radio silence on that front in the three years since.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
