10 Movie Franchises We Never Want To See Rebooted Again
2. Predator
The story of the Predator franchise will always run parallel to that of their Xenomorph contemporaries, because both of the iconic aliens have been the subject of multiple reboots that have never failed to match the glory days of their first incarnation.
John McTiernan and Arnold Schwarzenegger teamed to deliver a stone-cold action classic in 1987, and the Danny Glover-led Predator 2 has endured as a cult classic for 30 years despite failing to reach the heights of the first installment, but both are equally beloved by fans.
As mentioned previously in this article, the two crossover movies did nothing for either species' reputation cinematic reputation, before Robert Rodriguez's sorely-underrated Predators came and went in 2010 to little fanfare, and was ultimately disregarded entirely as the original's co-star and script doctor Shane Black attempted to breathe new life into the franchise with The Predator.
Despite becoming the highest-grossing installment in the franchise to date, tepid reviews and a theatrical cut that bore the obvious fingerprints of heavy reshoots, haphazard editing, studio interference and an awful sequel-baiting ending once again put the Predator on ice.
Currently there are no plans for another reboot, but in today's filmmaking climate it's no doubt being discussed behind the scenes by somebody. With Disney now in control of the rights, the family-friendly studio will hopefully decide that R-rated game-hunting aliens don't fit their remit, and let the franchise rest in peace.
