10 Movie Franchises We Never Want To See Rebooted Again
3. Most of Universal's Classic Monsters
The Invisible Man's low-budget, back-to-basics approach turned out to be a huge hit with both audiences and critics, showing that Universal may have finally turned a corner when it comes to reinventing their stable of classic monsters for the modern day.
However, these characters have been done to death so many times over the years, that the only real reason to adapt them again would be if someone comes up with a truly unique angle on how to do it. Unfortunately, it seems more than likely that the studio will keep churning out reboots simply because audiences know who these guys are.
Dracula Untold was originally set to launch the Dark Universe but was quickly swept under the rug after it disappointed critically and commercially, before The Mummy came along and definitively killed the entire experiment at the first hurdle.
While there's no sign of a Mummy reboot yet, Dracula is already on his way back to the screen with Karyn Kusama set to direct a modern re-telling, and that's without even mentioning Dexter Fletcher's Renfield spinoff, the Monster Mash musical, The Bride of Frankenstein, Elizabeth Banks' Invisible Woman, the James Wan-produced Frankenstein and Paul Feig's Dark Army, all of which are set to feature the Universal Monsters in some form.
The Dark Universe may have failed spectacularly, but it still looks like these characters will reach saturation point over the next few years regardless.
