10 Movie Franchises Where The Villain Became A Hero
1. T-800 - Terminator: Judgement Day
Despite being an iconic franchise people tend to forget the original Terminator is a low-budget slasher movie. You have an unstoppable killer machine in a mask - of human skin, in this case - chasing a young woman and murdering anyone in the way. Arnie is terrifying in the role of the emotionless cyborg and smartly used his limits as a performer to his advantage.
The Terminator became a huge smash on video, and when Arnold became a star the studio came sniffing around looking for a sequel. James Cameron decided to flip the concept on its head, turning the T-800 into a protector instead. This obviously played into Arnold's hero image at the time, while allowing the story to talk about the nature of humanity.
This switch worked perfectly for the story, but while parts three and five kept Arnie in the hero part, they didn’t bring anything interesting to the table. Part six is still being threatened, but based on the box office of Genisys it feels like an empty threat.
