1. Josh Trank Goes Off The Rails, Ruins His Own Movie - Fantastic Four
The Moment: When, in July 2012, Fox decided that hiring hot young 28-year-old director Josh Trank (Chronicle) to helm their $120 million Fantastic Four reboot was a solid idea. Why The Fanboys Hate It: Because though Fox certainly aren't blameless in fostering the movie's implosion, the evidence against Trank ruining his own movie is pretty damning. If numerous independent reports are to be believed, Trank was uncommunicative with Fox executives, frequently high on set and damaged a property hired for him to live in during production, heightening tension between himself and Fox to the point that large portions of the film were allegedly re-written and re-shot without his involvement, while he ended up locked out of the editing bay in post-production. And then there's the fact that Trank ended up torpedoing the final product one day before release, disparaging the final cut on Twitter, which was pretty much the final straw and may have contributed significantly to the movie's box office failure. Trank proved he has immense talent with Chronicle, but leaping from a $12 million movie to one ten-times that clearly was too much for him to handle as his second film, and so resurrecting the Fantastic Four franchise never really had a chance, assuming of course that Trank's original script was much better than the one we ended up with anyway. Given how eager we all were to see a good Fantastic Four film, even in the face of evidence to the contrary prior to release, this one was as infuriating as it was fascinating to watch unfold.
