1. Popeye (1980)

There are some movies that seem to exist only in your mind: you think you've made them up, because
no, that can't have ever happened, until one day you stumble upon it again, online or on television, and... how and why does this exist?
Popeye is one of the movies - a movie that I continually forget was ever made, only to be reminded by some arbitrary list (I said arbitrary!) or middle of the night slot in the TV schedule. I mean, look at it: Robin Williams as Popeye... in his feature debut... Shelly Duvall... and just...
it's 33 years old. Most bizarrely of all, it was directed by the master filmmaker that is Robert Altman. Based on the comic strip of the name name, the movie is only ever messy and unfunny, and nobody really seems to know what they're doing. I urge you to check this out if you've never seen it, though, 'cause it has to be one of the strangest movies ever made.
Will The Remake Be Any Good? It can't turn out much worse, can it? This movie has been in production since way back in 2010, but my research tells me that it's still being made as of right this minute. Thankfully,
Popeye looks to be in good hands: Genndy Tartakovsky, who created
Dexter's Laboratory and
Samurai Jack (both of which are awesome) is the man in charge. The film will be animated this time, too, which seems like a wise decision, given the relatively bizarre nature of the
Popeye world. I don't think I like
Popeye, but I'm certainly willing to give Genndy the chance to change my mind.
