10 Movie Reveals You Can Spot Early (If You Really Look)
6. Sammy Jankis' Story Is Actually Leonard's - Memento
The Reveal
Leonard (Guy Pearce) ended up causing the death of his wife himself due to administering her an accidental insulin overdose.
And so, the story he tells of a fellow amnesiac, Sammy Jankis (Stephen Tobolowsky), who killed his wife that very same way is actually his own.
How To Spot It Early
There's an extremely blatant yet nevertheless easily-missed hint during one of the black-and-white flashback sequences where Leonard is telling Sammy's story.
For just a few fractions of a second, we see Leonard appearing in the scene in place of Sammy, making it abundantly clear to anyone paying close attention that Sammy's story in fact belongs to Leonard.
Granted, between the film's enormously complex narrative structure and brilliantly whiplash-inducing editing, you'll certainly be forgiven for failing to notice this one.
