10 Movie Scenes That Unexpectedly Confused Audiences
4. Lisa's Mother's Breast Cancer - The Room
Tommy Wiseau's The Room may be a bad movie - albeit gloriously so - yet the narrative isn't particularly challenging to understand, save for one bizarre subplot which is raised and then never circled back to.
Early on in the film, Lisa's (Juliette Danielle) mother Claudette (Carolyn Minnott) tells her daughter in a weirdly casual tone, "I got the results of the test back. I definitely have breast cancer."
We as audience members naturally expect this bombshell to be dramatically important later in the movie, and yet, it's never brought up again, leaving viewers to wonder why the hell it was in the script at all.
While some have dubiously argued that Wiseau meant for this line to indicate that Claudette is an attention-seeking sociopath, it's much easier to believe that it formed part of a subplot that was ultimately cleaved away during post-production.
Either way, it's an incredibly odd inclusion in the film, albeit one that fans would absolutely miss were it not there.
