A film's home video release commentary has been known to come equipped with countless nuggets of unexpected behind-the-scenes gold. And that was again the case when it came to William Eubank's gripping submerged sci-fi thriller Underwater as a seemingly straight-forward slice of action was actually revealed to be a lot more dangerous and therefore complicated than initially assumed.

With leading actor Kristen Stewart being required to run through the exploding underwater research facility the actor is introduced within early on, it soon became clear that it wouldn't have been safe to allow the Twilight star to perform the sequence legitimately barefoot.

So, despite it being said that it was an action and stunt “which Kristen was totally down to do”, a genius solution involving the team creating pink-painted footwear, which gave off the appearance of Stewart still running around without shoes on, was landed on for the finished footage.

Stewart's feet were therefore saved of any nasty cuts and damage that could've been caused on the absolutely wrecked set, and audiences were successfully tricked into thinking the mechanical engineer Norah Price was legging it for her life without a shoe in sight.
