When you think about the many different characters to wear the Ghostface mask in the Scream franchise, typically at the top of the list would be Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard). The two friends were the original killers, and were incredibly effective in how they went about their spree.

However, their downfall came when they revealed themselves to Neve Campbell's Sidney, and their plan to look innocent by stabbing each other to narrowly escape with their lives wasn't exactly foolproof. But, having said that, they were the ones that started everything, something that Mickey Altieri (Timothy Olyphant) built on in the sequel.

After Sidney moved to college, her past followed her as a copycat Ghostface began killing those around her on campus. Part of what made Mickey such a scary Ghostface is that he used what Billy and Stu did to his advantage. He manipulated everyone, he played on Sidney's fears and doubts about Derek (Jerry O'Connell) after what happened with her last boyfriend, and his plan to give the world a trial for the ages and blame violence in cinema was a lot more convincing than if he had stabbed himself.

Ultimately, Mickey was working with Billy's mother, who wanted revenge for the death of her son, and he was killed. However, Randy had previously said that by their very nature sequels always have a higher kill count, and the fact that he wanted to get caught made him even scarier. If Mrs. Loomis hadn't have killed him, he likely would have gotten his wish.
