5. The Simpsons Movie 2

While The Simpsons has long since aged out of its peak years, and now has more bad seasons than good, its 2007 movie adaptation was far better than it had right to be. Itself releasing during a creative slump in the TV run, the flick was a hit with fans and critics alike, making over $500 million worldwide.

A sequel seemed inevitable, then, and has been talked about regularly since. Unfortunately it's yet to materialise, and everyone who worked on the original flick is eager to reiterate how punishing the project was, with the script going through over 100 rewrites and everyone struggling to deliver a story that was cinematic yet stayed true to the quick-fire nature of the regular episodes.

That hasn't stopped fans clamouring for more though, and despite the show's reputation in recent years, it would be a shame for The Simpsons to go away without lighting up theatres one more time.
