10 Movie Sequels That Basically Wrote Themselves (But Never Happened)
7. Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money
The title for this one already exists, and given how oversaturated the Star Wars brand has become, it couldn't be a more apt one. For whatever reason though, it seems that there were never any actual plans to make 'Spaceballs 2' a reality.
The potential material for another Spaceballs has been piling up ever since George Lucas released the prequels. Mel Brooks’ affinity for integrating meta humour into his comedies provides endless opportunity to ridicule the state of filmmaking today, which heavily relies on nostalgia. There's even a chance for him to include a series of bits about how long awaited sequels, such as this one, are never able to meet fan expectations.
Despite how perfect the current era of cinema is for another Spaceballs, the odds of it happening have been steadily decreasing for years. Mel Brooks has maintained that it could still happen, but since so many of the original cast members have passed away, it wouldn't feel like much of a genuine sequel.
At this point, all this talk feels more like wishful thinking about what could be, rather than any actual interest in getting the film made.
