10 Movie Sequels That Changed Their Franchise's Genre

1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - Horror To Screwball Comedy

And now for the most stark and heel turn example of a film changing genres for the sequel. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film is scary in a way that we just don't make anymore.

Using clever cinematography, effects, and great performances, the film used its incredibly low budget to make its brutality look hauntingly real, like a found footage movie. it's the kind of horror that leaves you staring up at the ceiling afterwards, and definitely avoiding taking detours in Texas of any kind afterwards.

The sequel is a screwball comedy.

Now sure, Leatherface and his hillbilly from hell family still kill, maim, and slaughter people, but even Evil Dead treated its goings on with a bit more gravitas. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is a dark comedy in every sense of the word, like if the writing staff for Loony Toons saw the face of Cthulu, went crazy, but were still expected to clock in for work tomorrow.

In its defense, the film is legitimately really funny at times, but when it comes to a film's sequel taking the mother of all detours into a completely different genre, this movie has got everyone beat.
