10 Movie Sequels With Massively Improved Rotten Tomatoes Scores
1. Ouija (6%) To Ouija: Origin Of Evil (83%)
Score Difference: 77%
By far and away the biggest Rotten Tomatoes jump between original and sequel (that we found), 2016's excellent Ouija: Origin Of Evil absolutely crushed its predecessor in terms of quality and with critics, resurrecting a franchise that many had assumed was dead after just one movie.
Ouija, much like Annabelle, was a formulaic and predictable jump-scare-filled supernatural horror, with sudden loud noises used to mask the lack of any actual tension, awful dialogue, and some truly laughable acting.
Conversely, Origin Of Evil (helmed by horror genius Mike Flanagan, known for Hush, Gerald's Game and Oculus) is clever, inventive, and - by centring on the plight of a normal family that's just trying to make ends meet - manages to invest you in its story from the get-go, something the first film's dumb, annoying teens couldn't accomplish.
No spoilers here, but it also packs one of the most chilling final shots to ever grace a horror movie. If you hated the first one, don't let that put you off; the 77% score jump is perfectly illustrative of the gap between these two movies.
