10 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming In 2020

3. Doctor Sleep

Quiet Place
wiki

Sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror film The Shining, Doctor Sleep is based on Stephen King's 2013 novel of the same name.

The film, like the book, will follow an adult Danny Torrance (played by Ewan McGregor) as he struggles with psychic powers - called "shining" - and alcoholism. Danny eventually encounters a cult that feeds on the "steam" of children who possess shining powers, and naturally, things go south from there.

One of the most exciting things about Doctor Sleep is the involvement of writer-director Mike Flanagan. The man has created some of the best horror experiences in recent years, from films like Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin Of Evil and Gerald's Game, to TV shows like The Haunting Of Hill House. He hasn't helmed a single dud to date, which bodes extremely well for Doctor Sleep.

The sequel will open in January 2020, and - much like Maleficent 2 - filming wrapped last year, so it won't be too long before we get a glimpse of what's in store.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
