10 Movie Therapists That Would Damage You Worse Than Before

6. He in Antichrist

Antichrist is the 2009 shocker by love- him-or-hate-him filmmaker Lars von Trier. The film stars Willem Dafoe as He and Charlotte Gainsbough as She. This anonymous couple are severely traumatized by the death of their son. The wife ends up in hospital and receives psychiatric care for her grief but our bad therapist in this film isn€™t the doctor she encounters here but her husband who also happens to be a therapist himself. He is highly skeptical of the care that She receives and decides: you know what, I know you better than anyone else, I share your trauma, I€™ve seen you naked and therefore I€™d be highly suitable as your psychologist. His treatment goes from bad to worse when he decides to retreat to a cabin in the woods and expose her to the cruel elements of nature. He, as a therapist, is oppressive and his treatment is ineffective. He is an overbearing God figure. When he does ask her psychology-related questions he appears detached. Trier has stated in interviews that he is not a fan of psychotherapy and that definitely comes through in this film; She spirals so destructively out of control that she chops off her own lady bits.
