10 Movie Universes That Make NO SENSE
8. Saw
The Saw franchise began simply enough, with terminally ill psychopath John Kramer (Tobin Bell) deciding to put those who "don't appreciate their life" through a series of creatively grisly traps to prove their fondness for existing.
But with each new sequel the mythology became both more dense and convoluted, introducing timeline shifts and dozens of new characters who, of course, were often inextricably linked to Kramer somehow.
By the time the flashback-heavy Saw V came around, the series resorted to lazy narrative retcons and ass-pulls to justify its continued existence, desperately trying to keep itself alive despite the fact that Kramer himself died all the way back in Saw III.
This reached its ridiculous apex in the most recent film, Jigsaw, where it was hilariously revealed that Kramer had yet another secret apprentice who both predated all the others and was still alive today.
Though the upcoming ninth film Spiral is touting itself as a back-to-basics soft-reboot for the series, fans would be naive to expect anything less than another muddy addition to the already nonsensical mythos.
