10 Movies Audiences Couldn't Handle

9. Saw III

In 2004, Saw released to kick off the iconic horror franchise that saw John Kramer's (Tobin Bell) very specific style of revenge and torture. Over the next six years, the franchise enjoyed six more instalments, but even now, after a further three, Saw III remains the highest-grossing of the lot.

Almost by law, sequels have to try and go bigger and better than what came before, and in the case of horror movies like Saw, they are typically gorier and more unsettling, doubling down on what made the originals so popular in the first place.

Saw III tapped into the psychological elements of revenge against forgiveness, putting a grieving father (as well as others) through his now trademark brand of horror. So horrible in fact, that multiple people across the UK had to call the emergency services when watching.

Those going to see Saw III over Halloween in 2006 were even warned by the East Anglian Ambulance Trust that it was not for the faint of heart, and that they had to respond to several incidents of audience members collapsing. Ironically, this probably just made people curious, and potentially contributed to the film out-grossing every other in the series.
