10 Movies From Cannes 2021 We're Hyped To See

French director Julia Ducournau’s 2016 film Raw made a big splash amongst horror fans, a grizzly picture about cannibalism that combined artistic verve with a love of serious gore. It established Ducournau as a talent to watch, but probably not a future Palme d’Or winner.

How little we knew. Her new film Titane has surprisingly scooped this year’s biggest prize at Cannes, without at all toning down the blood and guts with which the director made her name. Ducournau is only the second female director to win the prize (and the first not to share it) - to do so with a film like this is even cooler.

Titane has picked up intriguing reviews thus far, with most appreciating its commitment to stomach churning body horror, others lacking the constitution for it. There’s a scene involving a car which sounds guaranteed to make headlines on its mainstream release.

Ducournau proves herself to be a talent to watch, and the horror genre is evergreen - for those with the nerve, this will be one to watch.
