Another foreign film concerned with an ageing protagonist, this 2016 German-Austrian film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Unlike A Man Called Ove, Toni Erdmann's remake has already seen several stages of production come and go. Most disappointingly, Jack Nicholson was originally poised to come out of retirement to play the lead character, but dropped out in 2018.

Screenwriters Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner also dropped out of the project, but Kristen Wiig is still attached to star.

The true blip in this film's development though is the split of producing partners Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, who were pivotal to bringing this remake to the forefront. This likely throws the film into compete disarray, so expect to see a total reshuffling of producers and stars to occur if this remake ever does make it to the big screen.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
