10 Movies That Gave Rise To Bizarrely Specific Fears
4. Getting Turned Into A Donkey - Pinocchio
Pinocchio has to be one of the most disturbing films marketed towards children in the history of cinema. And with all the Disney films floating around out there, that's saying something. With its majorly skewed sense of morality, it's a wonder that this didn't cause serious psychological damage to generations of viewers. No kid is ever quite the same after witnessing the horrors of Pleasure Island, where naughty little boys are basically encouraged to misbehave, then turned into donkeys and shipped off to the salt mines. We were all terrified of a similar fate befalling us as kids, and Pinocchio frightened us into behaving like perfect little angels for at least a week or so. The reveal of what happens to children on Pleasure Island takes the film in such an unnecessarily dark direction. The punishment of the boys seems completely out of proportion with their misdeeds, especially considering that they're pretty much been given free rein to do whatever they want. Regardless, the image of the traumatized donkey crying for his mother is seared into our collective consciousness and isn't going away anytime soon.
