10 Movies Nobody Wanted To Admit Were Actually Remakes

7. Star Trek Into Darkness Redid The Wrath Of Khan

Right up until the moment Star Trek Into Darkness was released, it was always flat-out denied that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing Khan. We knew that he was, but they just wouldn't admit it, even though it was so obvious as to be staring us straight in the face.

In fact, it would have been a much bigger twist if he hadn't been Khan at all, because what was built up as the movie's big reveal just fell flat on its face because we'd already been fully aware of the fact for months at this point.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is one of the long-running franchise's most beloved entries, and in trying to ramp up fan service for the second installment in the rebooted timeline, writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci way overdid it, with Zachary Quinto's 'KHAAAAAAAAN!' definitely not supposed to be as unintentionally hilarious as it was.

Diehard Trek fans were never particularly enamored with Abrams' work on the series to begin with, and their opinions didn't change when Into Darkness attempted to appeal to both longtime aficionados and general audiences at the same time by attempting to put a new spin on an established classic, packing the movie with references that flew over a lot of people's heads while simultaneously p*ssing off a lot of the core fanbase at the same time.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
