10 Movies Nobody Wanted To Admit Were Actually Remakes
8. Ivan Reitman Remakes His Own Movie With Evolution
Ivan Reitman knew exactly what he was doing when he signed on to direct Evolution, and even heavily re-wrote the script to turn what was originally pitched as a more serious and straightforward sci-fi movie into a family-friendly comedy.
Presumably in an effort to try and recapture his glory years, Evolution is a Ghostbusters remake in everything but name. In fact, substitute the word 'ghosts' for 'aliens', and it becomes difficult to determine which of the two movies you're even talking about.
Two college professors with scientific backgrounds team up with a blue-collar everyman and a red-headed love interest to battle a threat that people didn't even believe existed up until now, all while butting heads with the incompetent authorities that force them to take matters into their own hands, before saving the day by blowing up a giant enemy that covers them in its own goo.
Dan Akroyd even has a cameo role, as if Reitman's continued nods to his past work weren't on-the-nose enough already. It even spawned an animated series exactly like Ghostbusters did, but Evolution didn't perform particularly great with either critics or audiences, and was soon forgotten about completely.
