10 Movies Ruined By Their Title

9. Dredd 3D

Dredd Madeline Madrigal
United International Pictures

When 2012's Judge Dredd reboot was originally released theatrically, it was marketed as "Dredd 3D," making it abundantly clear that the distributor was leaning fully into the film as a 3D spectacle rather than the gritty action thriller it actually was.

It set entirely the wrong expectations from the outset, then, and given that the 3D trend had well and truly peaked by 2012, it hardly persuaded many that this new take would actually be a worthwhile improvement over 1995's risible Sylvester Stallone-starring effort.

Despite receiving enthusiastically positive reviews from critics and those who did bother to see it, the name clearly did a ton of reputational damage, causing many to stay home instead.

And so, Dredd flopped at the box office even on a relatively modest $45 million budget considering its production quality.

Though the film did perform better on home video - where it not-so-coincidentally dropped the "3D" from its name - it evidently wasn't enough to get the long-requested sequel made.
