10 Movies Ruined By Their Title

6. Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Halloween III: Season of the Witch immediately pissed off a huge swath of the fanbase expecting to see Michael Myers slicing up the residents of Haddonfield once again.

John Carpenter instead decided to make the threequel a standalone story totally unrelated to Myers, in an attempt to reinvent Halloween as an anthology franchise of horror stories.

Season of the Witch - which was written and directed by regular Carpenter collaborator Tommy Lee Wallace - is instead centered around a malevolent corporation which attempts to use its microchipped Halloween masks to ritualistically sacrifice children in the pagan tradition, as you do.

But the decision to cling to the Halloween branding, and use the number three no less, ensured the discourse surrounding the film has forever been dominated by those feeling misled by the lack of Michael Myers.

Though contemporary reception to the film on its own merits is decidedly more favourable, with it becoming something of a cult favourite now, giving it its own distinct title or at least dropping the number three would've gone a ways to ensure audiences didn't feel duped.

Instead, Season of the Witch suffered a polarising response from critics and viewers, immediately killing the anthology plans and ensuring that The Shape returned for the aptly titled Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.
