6. Labyrinth 2

Jim Henson's Labyrinth is one of the most iconic and unforgettable cult classics of the 1980s - a masterclass of Jim Henson-produced puppetry alongside the all-timer pairing of Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. What's not to love?

All the same, a sequel didn't seem likely given Labyrinth's disappointing box office performance, and especially once Bowie himself passed away in 2016. Even so, Labyrinth 2 was announced just two weeks after the pop icon's death, with recent Alien: Romulus filmmaker Fede Álvarez initially signed to direct.

Despite the script quickly being finished, development struggled to move forward, with Álvarez ultimately being replaced by Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), while Connelly's potential involvement remained firmly up in the air.

Henson's family confirmed that they were still working on a new Labyrinth, but that they hadn't yet cracked the script, leaving many to assume it would quietly fade into the ether. But last month came the shock announcement that Nosferatu filmmaker Robert Eggers had been signed to direct a new Labyrinth, which will be a direct sequel to the original and co-written with Icelandic poet Sjón.

Hopefully, Eggers' clear talent and vision will be enough to persuade Jennifer Connelly to return for a second go-around.
