10 Movies That Had An Insane Amount Of Attention To Detail
4. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy - Every Piece Of Armor Has Its Own Story
Throughout the 9+ hour journey of Frodo and Sam journeying to destroy the ring whilst also watching them deal with some unintentional homoerotic sexual tension, the rest of the cast are embroiled in a series of epic battles that redefined how cinematic battles are staged. It's pretty certain that 97% of the watching audience didn't pay much attention to the battles beyond watching Aragon lopping a few orcs' heads off, Legolas' eyes, and jokes over Gimli's shortness.
Had you all paid much closer attention, you would've seen that each piece of armor worn by each individual has their own backstory and was hand-crafted as such.
The film's production team, which included 2 full-time blacksmiths, produced 48,000 individual pieces of armor, which involved hand-crafting time-consuming chain mail pieces, swords, bows, and arrows. Of those 48,000 pieces, each piece of armor or weapon reflects the backstory of the character wearing it. For example, Legolas's bronze quiver was crafted to depict 'a long-lost wax process', the Dwarfs wore barely seen belt buckles that reflect dwarven culture, and each orc helmet was crafted to cater for deformities, to depict rank, or to show how they were scavenged from past battles.
Next time, for a fuller and richer Lord Of The RIngs watching experience, don't bother with epic battle scenes anymore and focus on each character's fashion sense instead.
