10 Movies That Just Got Cancelled
3. Eternals 2
Eternals arrived in 2021 on a tidal wave of hype, that Oscar-winning filmmaker ChloƩ Zhao (Nomadland) was about to deliver a Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster like no other, in turn revitalising the flagging franchise post-Avengers: Endgame.
But Eternals ultimately proved to be a hugely divisive beast, earning the worst reviews of any MCU film at the time and grossing a mediocre $402.1 million worldwide.
Even throughout 2022, many close to the project indicated that an Eternals sequel was in active development, with Zhao expected to return to the director's chair. However, this past summer Kevin Feige confirmed that there were no active plans for Eternals 2, before GQ called it "reportedly canned" in a later interview with star Kit Harington.
Granted, this isn't surprising in the slightest given the wildly indifferent reception to the film and its middling commercial performance, especially in an era when Marvel Studios is desperate enough to drag Robert Downey Jr. back into the fold for the next Avengers film.
