10 Movies That Must Return As A TV Series

5. Men In Black

Men In Black 3
Columbia Pictures

As the credits rolled on Men In Black 3 there can have been nobody left in the cinema, never mind Hollywood, who was maintaing that the franchise was still a good idea. After all, there's only so much you can get do with a secret government organisation tasked with defending the world from an unlimited number of non-specific extra-terrestrial threats in an infinite and expanding universe.

Actually, no, you can do almost anything with that. The basic premise of Men In Black is a writer's wet dream when it comes to television. Much in the same way that Buffy prospered from being able to reinvent itself series after series, Men In Black centre's around an original and engaging core of characters and challenges without ever tethering itself to anything that might go stale. The final installment of the film saw them desperately try to shoehorn a clunky human element and backstory in to try and freshen things up.

Forgetting entirely that people in sharp suits and sunglasses blowing up aliens doesn't ever get boring, even if Will Smith does. A TV series for Men In Black needs only the rights to the franchise and a writer who's not afraid play around with the source material. It would offer two otherwise unknown acting talents the chance to portray the coolest characters on television for a while, and give audiences a sci-fi show that's both funny and engrossing. Something that's not been around since Firefly.
