10 Movies That Pissed Off Audiences Right Away
7. Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines
Terminator 3 actually isn't a bad movie by any means, but you'd be forgiven for assuming so from its clumsy, tonally off-kilter opening sequence, which concludes with the new T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) arriving in 2004 in order to protect John Connor (Nick Stahl) once again.
In a "playful" nod to the T-800's acquisition of his clothes, boots and motorcycle in the previous film, the new Terminator ends up sourcing his duds from a gay bar this time, culminating in the machine donning a pair of glittery, star-shaped, Elton John-style sunglasses.
This was basically the polar tonal opposite of the deliciously dark humour of T2, switching it out for pure silliness which naturally fell flat with most fans.
And despite the film being relatively decent overall, it wasn't the only time the script over-indulged in camp. Who, of course, can forget the thoroughly daft moment where the T-800 tells a store clerk to "Talk to duh hand"?
Fans were already nervous enough about T3 sucking, and this misguided opening gag really didn't help ease those fears.
