10 Movies That Really Needed A Better Villain

8. The Matrix Reloaded

The Matrix sequels were always going to struggle to expand the original's story in a meaningful way, and though The Matrix Reloaded certainly boasted enough electrifying action to satisfy, its climactic confrontation between Neo (Keanu Reeves) and the creator of the Matrix was less than stellar.

At the end of the film, we learn that The Matrix's "father" is a program called The Architect (Helmut Bakaitis), a smooth-accented, infuriatingly verbose overlord who bears a comical resemblance to KFC mogul Colonel Sanders.

Though Bakaitis does a fine job with the material he's given, it sadly doesn't amount to much more than vomiting exposition at both Neo and the viewer, sending the film's dramatic momentum crashing into a brick wall.

Though Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) was the most apparent recurring villain throughout the series (so far, anyway), The Architect was the man at the top and ultimately just a bit of an anti-climax, considering how suddenly he arrives and how little we ever learn about him.
